Carroll Shelby passed away Thursday and left behind an automotive legacy. He was a Texas boy with an obsession for everything automotive. Shelby started off his automotive career racing car and actually set 16 U.S. and international speed records. After having to retire from racing due to health problems, he started a driving school and the Shelby-American company. Shelby obtained a license to import a British Sports racing car from England, and installed an American Ford engine into it, and introduced it to the world as an AC Cobra, later to be known as the famous Shelby Cobra.
After the Shelby Cobra, he blessed us with his ingenuity and creativity, creating some of the most amazing cars this world has ever seen. Let’s take a look back at some of his most famous cars chosen by the duPont Registry’s followers.
1. Shelby GT500
First added to the line-up in 1967, the Shelby GT500 has since been a monster of the road.
2. Shelby Cobra 427 (AC Cobra)
The most iconic Shelby automobile and quite possibly one of the most iconic cars ever created.
3. 67 GT500 “Eleanor”
Featured in "Gone in 60 Seconds", Eleanor is loved by all. There are many recreations of her, but there is only one true Eleanor.
4. Shelby Daytona
Built specifically to take on Ferrari in the GT class, the Daytona was an unbelievably successful race car.
5. Shelby GT350
The GT350 only lasted for 5 years and it was replaced by the well known GT500.
