Who said electric vehicles were slow?
The Audi R8 e-tron has set the record as the fastest EV on Nurburgring. Driven by racing driver Markus Winkelhock, the electric R8 made it around Nurburging in an astonishing 8:09. Winkelhock says that even though the R8 e-tron is a production car and not a racing car, it still has a lot of sporty qualities. He says the unrelenting torque from the electric motors is what really helped keep the lap time down.
The R8 e-tron is powered by two electric motors that allow it to go 0-62.14mph in just 4.6 seconds. Also, this car is usually limited to just 125 mph but they allowed it to reach a top speed of 155mph. Why they have it governed at certain speeds is unknown, but it may have to do with exploding batteries.
It’s awesome to see that electric vehicles are making a stir on the race tracks, especially tracks as prestigious as Nurburgring. Hopefully we will see more EV’s making laps around Nordschliefe and more records being broken.
