The new 2013 Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG has a price tag of about $500,000 and will not be sold in the United States.
The G65 AMG features a twin-turbo 6.0 liter V-12 engine borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG. It will produce 612 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. The G65 AMG is all-wheel drive and has a five-speed automatic transmission.
Even though the G65 AMG will not be making it to the States, the G63 AMG will make it here. The G63 AMG features a 5.5 liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces 544 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque.
The G65 AMG is expected to sell for 391,327 euros in the Netherlands which works out to about $506,142. Even if the G65 AMG was going to be sold in the States, it is priced way higher than most Americans would pay for an SUV. The G63 AMG is expected to sell in the States for about $130,000 and will be available in August 2012.
Both models were premiered at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. Mercedes-Benz has also begun construction on a Chinese engine factory and is expecting production to begin in 2013. The factory is the first of its kind on foreign soil. China has become Mercedes-Benz’s third largest market worldwide and is expected to become the largest within a few years.
The original G-Class was designed in the 1970’s for German military use and was powered by a small diesel engine. It has come along way from solely military use to being the powerful luxury SUV it is today.
