Keeping up with the wave of hybrid technology, Ferrari has recently patented some new hybrid technology. They were previously working on KERS technology, which stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery System, which is based off of F1 technology. What KERS entails is a system that stores energy expelled diring braking in a flywheel. If you press a button, the energy is released directly to the wheels sending an 80hp burst to the car.
Ferrari’s new patented technology seems a bit more conventional and mainstream. It uses batteries and capacitors to store the energy and to utilize this energy are two electric motors. Each battery will have a different function; one will propel the car while the other will operate all of the ancillary devices. This system is meant to alleviate the engine from those duties during acceleration.
As of right now, the only car that would be able to utilize this technology would be the V8 California, as the patent would only work in car that has a 90 degree angle in a front-mounted engine.
