Ferrari is recalling around 200 specific 458 Italia and California models around the world due to crankshaft malfunctions. There have actually been 13,000 of these cars made, which is surprising in itself, so only 1.5% of the cars were affected by this malfunction.
According to Autocar, the recall has been issued because of the incorrect finish being used on the vehicle’s crankshafts. While it may seem like an insignificant problem, the wrong finish is actually causing unwanted vibrations which are leading to engine damage.
So if you are reading this and Ferrari told you to bring in your 458, I would drive it in ASAP… or you’ll have to have it towed to the dealership if you wait too long.
