Ken Adams, a cancer survivor, realized that not only is having a cancer a struggle, but getting to the treatments can also be a struggle. Adams says many cancer patients had to sit and wait for a bus after their treatments, something you don’t want to do after going through chemo. When Adams was going through Stage 3 head and neck cancer, he was getting chemotherapy every Monday for eight weeks and radiation treatments ever day for 39 days. Not only do these treatments drain the patient emotionally and physically, it can also drain your wallet. Adams says some patients would just not go to their treatments or give up because they could not afford to go or could not find a way to be transported.
In 2010, Adams decided he wanted to lend a helping hand to other cancer patients, so he founded Your Ride Is Here. Your Ride Is Here is a non-profit organization that provides rides for cancer patients to their treatment appointments, but these cancer patients ride in style. Patients are taken to and from their appointments in super cars and luxury cars, like a Ferrari Enzo or Ford GT. Not only does this foundation relieve cancer patients of having to find a ride to their treatments, it also takes their mind off of their situation. Patients who take part in the program are said to almost forget about their situation for the time being after their ride, and all they can think about is how amazing it was to ride in an exotic car. This distraction and joy is so very beneficial to these cancer patients as it gives them hope, something that is hard to have when battling cancer.
