BMW decided to treat their Facebook fans to a never before seen car yesterday: a V12 BMW Z3 Prototype. At one point during the Z3′s 1996-2002 run, BMW stuffed a V12 inside the little convertible. Jason from the f30post.com forums guesses that the V12 in the Z3 is the M73 5.4-liter engine from the E38 750i and E38 860Ci coupe from the mid 90′s. It produced 322 hp and 361 lb-ft torque. The engine that the original Z3 M Roadster and Coupé had was the 3.2-liter S54 from the E46 M3 which produced 321hp and 261 lb-ft of torque.
This car was obviously just a prototype and was never meant to be anything more than a project for BMW engineers. After seeing this car, it makes me think what other crazy machines BMW has created that we don’t know about…
