2013 M5 crashes going 186mph on the Autobahn

On Tuesday evening a 60-year-old M5 driver was driving on the Autobahn when he had to swerve left to avoid an incoming car. This caused him to lose control, crashing repeatedly into both left and right-side barriers along the road. The M5 then rolled several times before coming to a stop over 320 feet down the road, in the grass. The driver’s sons were following their father in an M6 and M3, and managed to rescue their father and put out the incurring fire with a fire extinguisher.

What is surprising is that the 60-year-old driver, 20-year-old passenger and the dog in the back seat all survived, though the two driver and passenger were hospitalized. This proves that the BMW really is a perfect Autobahn car, as it is not only powerful, it is unbelievably safe.

This just goes to show it is not the speed that kills.That it is the knowlege and skill of the driver road condition. than again accidents do happen to all people some time.

  Speed all by itself does not kill, but I would bet that same skilled driver, as you would say, couldn't do that again without dieing. Your leaving luck out of the equation.

This proves only that the driver was stupid for going that fast when it wasn't safe to do so. Proves nothing about the car.

    I found that the best time to go really fast on the autobahn was very early in the morning, around daybreak. The run from Munich south to Innsbruck worked for me. During normal daylight hours there are just too many cars, etc, around to make any high speed runs. You'd be very lucky to get more than a 10 sec gap in traffic during normal daylight hours.

I want to know why an oncoming car was in the opposite direction of traffic on the autobahn, and what came of the driver, who was guilty of a high crime.

  Probably a car driving the same way but much slower. I think that is what they mean by "incoming" car. At 186mph everything moves pretty quickly towards you I guess.

I have the same question as Travis. Without knowing all the facts, it sounds as if the oncoming driver should be jailed.

I'm an M5 owner and this article caught my eye. An incoming car is a car coming onto a motorway, like an on-ramp. This guy was going so fast in his M5 he would have had to swerve to avoid running into the back of the car. If the autobahn had a sensible speed limit the M5 could have simply braked. Although no one died in this accident, it all comes down to luck. Theres nothing to suggest everyone in a high speed 5 series crash will survive. Thankfully he didn't hit any other cars and cause serious injury to innocent people. Taking cars like this up to those speed levels should be left for controlled environments, or track days. There's a reason M's come with fire extinguishers as standard equipment.

Bittner has it correct. Williams, the moron is truly yourself. Since the autobahn was probably the more typical two lanes wide, if the M5 was in the left lane, as is almost certainly the case, if the INCOMING(pay attention Williams) car stayed in their right lane, there would be no problem whatsoever. Problem is if the incoming driver crossed over their lane slightly to the left and caused the M5 driver to have to react. The M5 driver could also have reacted when it actually was not necessary. One can't tell who did what to whom from the article.

In Germany, you MUST yield to faster cars and move to the right lane. The cars in the left lane are supposed to be the fastest on the road. It is unlawful to be in the left lane and not stay on the right if a car is faster than yours. The "incoming" car can lose his/her license for this accident, and at $3000 a license, that isnt cheap.

Or if he could that again he'd be dead...!!" if he would have detected the oncoming a second sooner I probably wouldn't be bitching of you "fuck-tards..!!" and if he woulda noticed the oncoming car one second later than he did....! At those speeds anything can cause an accident.The oncoming driver couldn't react fast enough to a vehicle that was traveling so fast,it liking needing someone to look over the horizon to check for whats coming.Anyway is there any parts for Salvage lol
