Car Gore: Ferrari 348 driver killed in high speed accident

In Wasco, Orgeon 33-year-old Gabriel Pigotti was killed when his 1994 Ferrari 348 collided with another car.

Thursday morning, Pigotti was driving his 348 southbound on Highway 97 in Wasco, Oregon as the driver of a northbound 2011 Ford Edge turned left. The 348 and Edge collided, sending the Ferrari 20 ft off of the road. Witnesses say that the Ferrari’s speed may have been a factor in the accident.

Pigotti was pulled from the wreckage and immediately taken to Mid-Columbia Medical Center via an air ambulance. He was pronounced dead two hours later.

The driver of the Ford Edge was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.

"Speed" was a factor? How 'bout the Edge Driver's lack of respect for "right of way"?? Seems that was the first real cause of this crash.

Unfortunatly many people do not seem to be able to judge the closing rate of oncoming traffic. My car is bright yellow and I get cut off all the time by people who pull out in front of me.

  Happened to me today some dumb ass in a truck pulls across 4 lanes of traffic and cuts me off while I'm hitting an on ramp to the highway, now I'm not pointing fingers but was the driver of the edge a woman? Scientists have proven that women's spacial awareness is worse then men, that includes being able to tell how fast something is going

Speed has nothing to do with it. No speed is safe when others cut in front of you without looking. It's a disturbing trend that more and more people are buying SUVs for "safety" reasons when their inattention is the actual danger. They're safer because they have more metal, but they're the ones killing others since they don't bother paying attention.

    Seriously, lets play the blame game. Sure I pulled out in front of someone and killed them, but he should have stopped for me/been paying more attention/been going slower! The driver of the SUV will probably be charged with vehicular manslaughter, failure to yield, maybe reckless driving. They can expect a maximum of 5 years prison and $10k in fines in addition to thousands and thousands in legal fees. On top of the fact that they have to live with killing someone. This persons life is effectively over, just like the other driver's.

Who gives a crap if the Ferrari was going 120mph, common sense would tell you not to pull out in front of a moving vehicle. Americans seems to lack common sense quite often.

Speed bends time. If the Ferrari is doing 120-140mph, its gonna appear as though it is far enough away. So as the SUV driver you think, "hey, I'm good" so you make your left carefully, and you check to your right again and, "oh crap, that Ferrari is doing 120." In no way is that the SUV's fault. If the Ferrari hadn't been speeding, there would've been no issue.

  You're making some serious assumptions here. The SUV made a left turn and hit/killed a man. Unless the driver of the Ferrari was intoxicated 50 out of 50 states say that driver is at fault and will be charged with vehicular manslaughter. Besides, The downside of exotic cars with loud exhausts is that they inherently look like they're going faster than they are. You saying that he is at fault because he drives a Ferrari and therefor must have been speeding is like blaming a rape victim for dressing attractively.

Speed was not excessive given the appx 45ft skid to the final resting place of the Ferrari. Look at the photos. People just don't respect turning into traffic.

Well speed could diffidently be a factor even when turning into traffic your an idiot if you think otherwise. If i am turning onto the highway i expect the cars to be coming at 55-65 mph. If he is flying going 120 then he is closing way faster than what he should legally should. Speed kills ive been pulled out in front of and I have never been going at a speed to cause this, dude did it to himself

  You imbecile, by that logic you would feel comfortable mowing down a jaywalker because he wasn't in a crosswalk. By that logic, you don't even need a windshield, just drive around blindly 'expecting' everyone to be in their place. You are a moron if you enter a roadway - let alone someone's lane - just 'expecting' them to be doing their legal thing, or frankly expecting anything at all. There are a lot of idiotic laws and rules out there, and plenty of people don't abide by them all, including yourself. You've just been lucky so far. Don't 'expect' traffic to move the way you think it should: observing your surroundings and adjusting to the flaws of your fellow man are your duties anytime you're on the road, you dumb oaf. And you're certainly not on the roads to act as traffic cop/judge/executioner for people who aren't following a law you happen to like at the time. It was his lane, nobody should have entered it unless they could do so without affecting his momentum, whatever his momentum might be; and the faster he's going, the less time they'll have to wait for him to go by. (p.s. 'diffidently' is practically the opposite of 'definitely')

I am just curious about the impact. Is that kind of destruction done going 45? Or the speed limit what ever it is on that road. If he is Doing 90+ and the speed limit is 45 he is approaching you 2x faster than you would expect. so what in normal circumstances might be enough time is now not to make that turn safely. I think there is enough blame to go around and the insurance companies will be left to figure it out.

It is the SUV's fault! The Ferrari had the right away PERIOD! There is no proof that the Ferrari was speeding, except the word of the person that caused the accident. What better way to beat a vehicular manslaughter charge than to lie about the dead drivers speed! Think James Dean. For decades he was blamed for the accident due to supposed high speed driving, then they proved that he was doing the posted speed limit and the idiot old man just did not care about anyone else, and turned in front of him.
